Is it?

Tell me what you think...

Let me give you a hint here. There is a difference between "tradition" and "traditionalism".

Someone once said that tradition is the living faith of the dead and traditionalism is the dead faith of the living. :-)

One way of thinking of the positive contribution of tradition is to liken it to a kite where Scripture and the Spirit are the wind and tradition is the tail.

thanks H2B and to use your analogy when traditionalism is at play it becomes the kite and the Scripture and Spirit are the tail.

Many confuse tradition and traditionalism. I do believe this is a big problem in the modern American Church - the two are confused and too often traditionalism had been the mission.

We need to steer clear of traditionalism and we need to hold traditions with an open hand. The mission of Christ must always trump the mission of tradition.

Great comments, and know that I appreciate you for them.

I'll give another hint: adding the ism to tradition is what changes everything here.

Some use tradition as it is defined in traditionalism! The ism changes the meaning entirely.

No one will help me decide if traditionalism is a SIN in the modern American Church.

Same is true of denomination and denominationalism!

In this regard, is denominationalism a sin in the modern American Church?

Traditions and traditionalism -- both can be good when it is serving Christ mission and mandate and both can be a sin when it become an idol. Perhaps the answer is in the person or the attitude or in the attribute it produces?

Christlikeness is not measured by title, tithe, temperment or talent but in the heart of Christ shown through.

Defensive postures can also become an idol when the Character of Christ is not reflected.

Doing things repeatedly is not at issue but rather the doing with out relationship in Christ is.

Tradition - Traditionalism? Both can be idol and both can be used by God to disciple us.

Jesus repremanded the pharisees for forsaking the commands of their God for the traditions of their elders. so the question i ask

"are your traditions more prominant and preeminant than His commandments?"

if not, then no prob. if so, LAY IT ON THE ALTAR FOR THE LORD YOUR GOD IS A JEALOUS GOD AND WILL NOT STAND TO BE DISREGARDED!
