Michael Frost -Quote

"When we have no impressive buildings and no swollen budgets to sustain our work, often only then do we we realize that the best we have to offer this post-Christendom world is the quality of our relationships, the power of our trustworthiness and the wonder of our generosity."

And I would add, all in the context of showing Jesus to world.

Bobby: What is the context of this quote? Is Frost trying to support an argument? Is he stating what he sees as a fact? Is it a book? A magazine article? An email? Who is Michael Frost?

Why do I ask? Because I don't know any Christians who would say it's about the buildings and budgets over the relationships. This quote, taken out of its context I hope, reads like a quote from someone who's trying to support an argument they want to make, but who doesn't really have any facts to support it.

One could almost turn it about and it would still make sense:

"When we quit obsessing about our personal relationships and our own trustworthiness, often only then do we realize that if we would just be a bit more generous with the funds God has given us for building programs and outreach to the unsaved in our communities, then we could reach the masses living in our post-Christendom world and impact them for Christ."

Frost's quote seems a little like stating the obvious, rather than some kind of revelation.

Maybe I am just feeling feisty today? I know I have a killer headache. :)

Michael Frost wrote newly released book entitled, "Exiles- Living Missionally in a post-Christian Culture"

In the context of the quote: He says the church focuses on Building, Budgets and People. This has nothing to do with the relational aspect of people. He is driving the fact that the tell tale signs of success for the American church is bigger buildings and budgets and more and more people through the door.

The post-moderns in a post Christian Culture are not being won progressively through any church with a focus on buildings, budgets and more people. (they don't like bigger is better) If we are to reach the multitudes of lost people we need to begin living out the Great Commission not only in belief but in actions that are demonstrated by our beliefs.

Buy the book and be forever changed in your thinking or stay where you are inyour thinking. As a writer you will appreciate the power to change thinking through excellent thinking traferred into great writing or something. Sound like I am doing a run on in my preaching.

Christians build great relationships with other Christians but often neglect building relationships with the lost who are without Jesus in the world.
