Bob, don't mislead your readers. You are not losing brothers. There is nothing about Discipleship Making that disturbs this brother. What is of concern is the hostility and harsh judgment of some. I love you bro'.
I would say that leaving the missionary church is a bit of a startling news item. Leaving one church that is not opposed to discipleship making. I also am concerned that you don't become an island without the support - even in prayer - of a group.
I am assured that you have prayed about this. I am certain that you have considered all the options. If this is your choice, I am sure that you have come to this in prayer and serious discussion with your family, who love you.
It's the prophetic voice that says it is only disobedience that allows believers not to engage the Great Commission personally.
I'm not weathering this storm too well. I'm taking a break from several pastors who are very very close to me.
Let the wind blow as Martilou suggested.
Pastors do not do well when I say they are sinning by not holding their congregations "personally" accountable for the Great Commission. Pastors do not do well when I point out that doing evangelism and discipleship as a corporate thing is not personal engagement and obedience as Jesus directed. The very corporate acts of discipleship and evangelism are often letting believers off the hook.
If we are ever to change the world for Christ - every believer will need to pick up personal responsibility for making disciples.
Leaving a church that is not opposed to disciple making was not the issue that forced our decision to leave. We had limitations imposed upon us.
God is telling us to move out nationally with our transformational teaching in order for Him to birth a movement of disciples committed to disciple making as the main thing.
We have movement associations now in Kansas, Indiana, Missouri, Washington, Arkansas and Texas.
God is birthing a new Wine in a new Skin! That's why we left. While some have discontinued contact and support for our leaving others are continuing and others are joining.
Again Chad, we Carder's are always batting back and forth. Can you imagine 8 kids in a small house. We learned to communicate with passion. Yet we are close, for sure. We get into it and then we work through it, always.
Not having the keystone training puts them at a serious disadvantage in our discussions here. Once you have the training you have to choose to embrace or reject it. They have not received the training. So when weighed in along side of the practices of the American Church what we are doing looks and sounds threatening to them. Not just them, other leaders in the modern American Church as well.

What is it specifically about making disciples that they don't like? Or is it something else?

There are plenty of us who are supporting Bob and praying for him. You do not have to worry about that.
Thanks Eric...
