My friend Dave DeVries posted the following on his blog

Most Christians in America don’t understand the mission of the church. They view buildings as the “church” and invite people to come to their church building. They “entrust” the true mission of the church to trained professionals who leave their own culture to reach those in another culture with the gospel. The absence of missional churches, missional leaders and missional movements in America must be addressed.

We need to capture the heart of Jesus and the early church who made disciples making disciples the main and supreme task for all believers.

The way I see it, here in New Zealand anyway, is that we have to retrain the Church to merge their secular and spiritual lives. When Jesus came to the Disciples walking on the water, they were just fishing, not looking at what God was going to do with them in that situation.
In every moment of their lives Church people need to constantly be asking themselves, not, "how can I bring Jesus into this situation" but "what is Jesus already doing in this situation and how does He want me involved, if at all". It takes a lot of prayer and practice to be constantly aware of Gods working, but once we do only then can we start walking on water with Him.

The picture I have, of a large part of the Church is, that they have crowded around Jesus and the sick can't get to him.

You are right anony! I see the modern American Church in a holy huddle also. Huddles are necessary but never meant to be lived in. There comes a time when you leave the huddle to engage the field or thew world.

I do believe the Holy Spirit is always working to orchestrate events and opportunities for to share our Jesus story. Every believer has a Jesus encounter/transformation story, right? Or, maybe some of us who claim still lack it it. The problem is that in the modern American Church Jesus is only mentioned at the church - the location. We need to share our Jesus story as the Holy Spirit breaths opportunities.

It's funny how Dave can get away with saying this...

Way to go, Dave D.
