What would Jesus do?

A large church in town had a ground breaking this past Sunday for a new building. How wonderful huh?

The very next day on Monday a young lady got out of her car in the church parking lot where she spent the night. She went in to ask for help -just a room in a motel would do -or even a place to lay her head and take a shower.

The pastor told her that they have no resources to help her and that the resources they have for this kind of thing are only used for their members. She was then referred to another Church to ask for help.

Really, what would Jesus do?

It is interesting that you bring that up, because I am originally from a church of around 2200 and this past week they announced a capital campaign...not to build buildings for the church...but to build a homeless shelter, a battered woman's shelter, and another 400,000 per year earmarked for nothing more than meeting peoples needs.

Now, they would not have been able to commit to this level of community involvment if they had not:
A: focused on numerical growth.
B: taken those numbers and made them on fire for the community.
C: followed through.

I don't know what Jesus would do...but I wish I was in that town right now because I have a few things in mind that I would do.

note to self: "Be nice, Bill...Be nice."

Self to note: "I don't feel very nice right now after reading this."

"So the religious leaders said to one another, "See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after Him!" -John 12

"for they loved human glory more than the glory of God." -later in John 12

That might have something to do why most Americanized church leaders aren't asking WWJD in those situations. Praise be to God there is another way!

Thanks Spametc ... big church is not bad by itself. Big church with wrong attitude is wrong.
