Your Church...

Would you describe your congregation as a "service" congregation or a "serve-us" congregation.

Service = outward serving
Serve-us = meeting the needs of those who attend when they attend.

Well, as impatient as I can be, I'll hold on a little longer. A poor post or one that challenges, only time will tell.

My church? Too much of one, but striving for more of the other. I'm seeing brief flashes of hope for something more, something deeper.

Deeper is good but outer is better! Outer proves the deeper!

True, but until the people want deeper, they won't go "outer."

Mike, try it this way. People who know Jesus personally will never go deeper until they go outer. It is when one goes outer that they soon learn that they need deeper and that is when they hunger and thirst for it.

I know believers who stayed inner in order to grow deeper and they remain inner and growing deeper. Growing deeper can never fully happen until the inner goes outer. It's in the outer that one is forced to rely on the Spirit of God.

So Mike, you must flip it around. You must go outer in order to go deeper. Otherwise growing deeper remains a hobby for the saints and some holy attempt/excuse for not fully obeying.

I said, I know believers who stayed inner in order to grow deeper and they remain inner and growing deeper.

I mean to say, I know believers who stayed inner their entire lives in order to grow deeper. (And they think they are growing because they are learning more and more). But in the end and in rocking chairs, they gum themselves to death having stayed on the inner in order to avoid the outer. What they think is spiritual depth ends up looking spiritual but living very immaturely.

How sad to live your entire life on the inner while never venturing out to experience the transformation on the outer - in the world.

Real transformation happens when it happens in others through you.

OK, that makes sense. I can agree. Turning it around that way is ... different, but intriguing.
